Charity-minded schoolgirls have made sure dozens of the borough’s poorest family can provide for their babies.

A fundraising drive at Walthamstow School for Girls recently raised £1000 for the Higham Hill Baby Bank which hands out necessities to parents, including nappies, wipes and milk.

Classes from year 11, and some pupils from years 8 and ten joined in with the effort which saw staff dressing up, cake sales and a game of match the teacher with the baby photo.

The fundraising was lead by learning support teachers Gill Scott and Jennifer Rae with Marion Dowling from administration.

The borough’s mayor Saima Mahmud went along to the Higham Hill Children’s Centre to watch the cheque presentation.

Money from the school will go towards replenishing their stock of toys and toddler books which are often in ‘short supply’.
