Vital tips for keeping cool have been issued by the NHS as the temperature rises to 35 degrees Celsius in Epping on the hottest day nationwide for nine years.

The West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has advised people to prepare for hot weather by staying hydrated and taking good care of the elderly and young people.

The CCG has also recommended people stay inside between 11am and 3pm and to use high factor sunscreen when venturing outside.

CCG director Dr Christine Moss said: “There is a lot to enjoy in west Essex when the weather is nice and by following these simple tips to stay cool, everyone can enjoy the warm weather safely.

“Remember to drink plenty of cold drinks, especially water, and avoid the sun for the hottest part of the day between 11am and 3pm.

“If you do go out in the sun, apply a good quality high factor sun cream as UV levels are high.

“Pollen levels also remain high and you should ask your local pharmacist for help managing the symptoms of hayfever if you need it.”

If you are concerned about your health in the hot weather call the NHS on 111, visit your pharmacy or contact your GP.
