Secondary school students have held an annual community tea party for elderly residents.

Year 10 students at Braeside School in High Road, Buckhurst Hill spent six months planning and organising the Japanese themed event that caters for more than 50 members of the community  and took place yesterday (July 1) afternoon.

The girls, aged 14 to 15 years, arranged entertainment that was performed by fellow students at the school including tap dancers, classical singers and a piece by Braeside’s voice ensemble.

The tea was served on traditional willow pattern china and consisted of homemade sandwiches and a variety of cakes.

"They had taken great care to prepare thoroughly and with attention to detail.

"This enabled the girls to spend time with their guests and cater for their needs on the hottest day of the year."
