A water activities centre received a royal visitor last week, as volunteers were honoured for their positive contribution to the community.
HRH Prince Edward visited the ESSA water activities centre in Meadgate Road, Nazeing, on Wednesday (July 8).
He made the visit on behalf of the Sports and Recreation Alliance to give management at the centre the Community Sport and Recreation Awards.
Chosen over around 200 other nominations, the ESSA centre received the award and a cheque for £1,000 for new equipment to train young people.
The registered charity is run by 120 volunteers who organise water activities and courses for people of all ages, particularly young people such as guide and scout groups, cadets and schools.
The centre invites volunteers at a young age and trains them extensively, with some former recruits progressing as far as becoming charity trustees.
Manager Marion Caslake said: “It was a great day and a wonderful opportunity to meet others who rely on volunteers to run their sports.”
