More than 100 varied works from budding young artists were displayed at an inaugural exhibition last weekend.

St John’s Church in Epping hosted the first Youth Makes Art exhibition between Friday (July 10) and Monday, with pieces of art from 18 schools, community groups and other artists aged between 10 and 23.

Cash and voucher prizes were awarded to the creators of the most popular works at the event, which was organised by the church and Epping Rotary Club.

Roding Valley High School took a number of awards, with Florence Cope winning the Sue Kreitzman special award with her painting Two Become One, and Beau Hunt awarded senior first prize with the sculpture Golden Crocodile.

Epping St John’s pupil Lizzie Redway won the junior first prize with her painting Sky High.

Organiser Roger Lowry said: “We are delighted to report that the exhibition has proved to be successful beyond our wildest dreams.

“There were over 100 people at the private viewing, including many of the young artists and their families, with a steady stream of visitors over the whole weekend.”
