A three-day food collection saw supermarket customers donate a total of 2,575 meals for those in need earlier this month.
The collection days at Tesco in Epping High Street were held between July 2 and 4, with donations going to the Loughton foodbank after being counted and collected in to emergency parcels containing three days’ supply of nutritionally balanced food.
Between April 1 2014 and March 31 2015, the foodbank provided emergency parcels to 592 people.
The donations in Epping were made as part of a nationwide drive from the Trussell Trust Foodbank Network, which saw 3.6 million meals given around the country.
Manager Heather Scholer said she was “very grateful for the ongoing support of the local community” after the meals were counted.
