A literacy project adopted from the United States is growing in popularity in Waltham Forest.

Highams Park is currently home to three little free libraries (LFL) which were installed in Abbotts Crescent, Selwyn Avenue and Handsworth Avenue in December.

LFL is based on the concept of promoting literacy and the love of reading through free community book exchanges, first initiated in America by Todd Bol from Wisconsin.

Walthamstow became the UK birthplace for the US craze in June 2014 with 12 installed after two former E17 residents tweeted the idea and was inundated with support.

Now, following on the from success of a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, two more box libraries are being installed in Highams Park this Sunday (July 26).

Local artist's Linda Bondy has designed a penguin-themed library for Beech Hall Road and Juliet Thomas has created a

billy the book monster library in Henry's Avenue.

Both will be launched at 11am and 2pm by the artists and there will be poetry readings by adults and children.
