Voluntary groups and residents associations can now bid for funds to support schemes benefiting local communities.

The funding, which is now available through Essex County Council's Community Initiatives Fund, is aimed at helping groups develop and improve community services.

Groups are able to apply for a cut of the £1.5million total for schemes which create, procure or develop new community projects, enhance existing community projects or develop initiatives that strengthen a community.

Last year’s applications resulted in 90 individual projects being awarded sums of up to £20,000.

Applications of interest must be submitted by September 25.

Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for the environment, Cllr Roger Hirst, said: “The Community Initiatives Fund is an excellent example of how Essex County Council is supporting communities to help themselves.

“I would encourage those who want to bid for a share of this fund to apply to avoid missing out.”
