Young readers have been urged to take part in a “record breaking” summer book challenge.
Children aged between four and 11-years-old can take part in the Record Breakers Summer Reading Challenge at Loughton library until September 5.
As part of the challenge, children borrow and read any six library books over the summer holiday, with free stickers and posters to encourage them along the way.
The annual challenge from Essex County Council, which saw 42,800 participants last year, has partnered with the Guinness World Records for the “record breaking” theme.
Libraries councillor Roger Hirst said: “Children who read for pleasure during the summer holidays can maintain and improve their reading levels, keeping their confidence high for the next school term.
“Essex’s libraries offer children a free, fun and fulfilling way to spend their holiday time whilst expanding their knowledge and imagination.”
