AN INNOVATIVE policing project in Waltham Forest has been shortlisted for an award.

The schemes selected for tenth annual Problem Oriented Partnerships (POP) Awards have now been announced.

The POP Awards are partnership between the Metropolitan Police Services, London Councils (the umbrella organisation for the 33 London local authorities), the Mayor’s Office for Crime and Policing (MOPAC) and Transport for London (TfL).

They celebrate projects which respond to local needs and address the causes of crime – rather than just the consequences – and that are designed and implemented in partnership with local police and communities.

This year’s shortlisted projects are:

Safer Travel

Ealing Safer Transport Team – Ealing Broadway bike thefts

Roads and Transport Policing Command and Transport for London – Route 25 fear of crime

Lambeth Safer Transport Team – Turning Vauxhall Purple

Safer Communities

Newham – antisocial behaviour and criminality in privately rented property

Waltham Forest – tackling burglary in schools

Newham – Operation Alabama: tackling antisocial behaviour associated with rough sleeping and encampments

Winners in each category will receive £1000 to assist with further problem-solving projects in their area.

The 2015 POP Awards will take place at New Scotland Yard on September 26.
