Two close friends, who grew up together received exactly the same grades, in the same subjects at A Levels and are now going on to attend the same university in a 'bizarre but amazing' coincidence.

Shabnam Pervez-Hussain and Hasinah Butt grew up on the same street together in Leyton and say they are glad they enjoy each others company so much as they both prepare to go to City University London to study Psychology.

Firm friends they attended George Mitchell School before studying A Levels at Leyton Sixth Form College both getting ABB in Sociology, Psychology and English Language, when results were announced yesterday (August 13).

Shabnam, aged 18, called the coincidence amazing.

She said: “We have become really good friends over the years and we live on the same road.

"We had no idea that we would be friends for this long and attend the same schools, college and now university together but we are excited for the future."

Hasinah, also 18, added: “I am just glad that we enjoy each other’s company so much. We are going to City University together so it is nice to know that we still be friends in the future.”

The results day mood at Leyton Sixth Form College in Essex Road was buoyant with staff and students celebrating a record 99.7 per cent A level pass rate.
