People have been invited to get active for a good cause starting from next week.

On National Fitness day next Wednesday (September 9), sports centres and swimming pools across Epping Forest will launch a month-long campaign series of fitness challenges, raising money for the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The charity, which helps provide stem cell and bone marrow transplants for those who desperately need them, is being supported by Everyone Active, which runs the Epping, Loughton and Ongar centres and Waltham Abbey swimming pool.

Between Wednesday and September 16, members of the public will be challenged to cycle, run and row a kilometre on machines at the centres and make a donation.

Members and guests will also be challenged to swim as many lengths as possible in half an hour, with the chance to win three months free membership.

Other fundraising events will run through the month, including a series of children’s activities and group exercise sessions.

Manager Kim Barnes said: “We are going to do everything we can to raise as much money as possible for those suffering from blood disease and their families and raise awareness for Anthony Nolan.

“National Fitness day is a perfect opportunity to get everyone involved in trying out a new activity and to launch our awareness month for the charity – what better way to get active than by doing so for a good cause?”
