THE borough-wide issue surrounding takeaways has been highlighted by the Guardian but in Highams Park we are now facing a rash of applications from existing takeaways for late-night licences.
The vast majority of residents in Highams Park are vehemently opposed to late night takeaways with 33 residents and the three local societies sending letters to the council's recent licensing committee citing noise, the smoking of cannabis, teenagers urinating in front gardens, fights, litter and intimidating behaviour.
We cannot believe that the council seems to be keen to grant extensions to these businesses especially as the leader of the council Clyde Loakes was reported in the Guardian and Evening Standard as wanting to make the borough a 'takeaway free zone'.

What we would like to see is a formal council policy that restricts the opening hours of these establishments situated near residential areas. Surely that is not too much to ask?
