ILFORD Swimming Pool will close this year.
The council has talked about investing in a major sports centre with a 50m pool and fitness facilities. Well, as usual, they have lied and failed as there are no plans to replace Ilford pool in the near future.
The closure of Ilford Swimming Pool, and the council dragging their heels as to what they plan to put in its place will have a dramatic affect on our society's health, clubs, specialised groups, the public and schools.
It will also have a dramatic affect on Fullwell Cross as this will be the only main pool in Redbridge.
Our local papers state that Redbridge is one of the best places to live. Tell that to the people affected by the yobs on the streets and a council that has wasted millions over the years on patching up Ilford Pool and numerous pool designs.
Obesity is at its highest and we as a borough don't cater for the disability swimmers. Having one pool will lessen the time in the water for key groups such as learn to swim, adult swimming and the public.
What is the council trying to do? Increase obesity?
Encourage more yobs on the streets? Prevent our' residents from learning to swim? The council would say no, but this is what WILL happen.
The council must commit to a new pool (whether 25m or 50m).
Enough talking - stop spending OUR money on worthless designs. Commit to a new pool.
