3,000 voices speak out but no one is listening in on post office closures

4:29pm Wednesday 14th May 2008

I WAS so angry when I heard that we have been unable to save our post office that I rang the post office helpline number to voice my disapproval.

Was I really that surprised that Anita Turner, the network development manager, can only be contacted by letter or email?

It is very easy to put aside a letter or an email and ignore pages of petitions, and if you can't be contacted by phone you can safely distance yourself from the people who a closure such as this will greatly affect.

I, for one, will mark my contempt for the organisation with my feet. I will have to use the post office in George Lane as my job dictates I use special delivery constantly, but I will never use their services for anything that I can find elsewhere. No bureau de change, no banking, no insurance - I can even get my stamps from Costco.

It is an utter disgrace that this thriving, well used business is being taken from us and it is so disappointing that we can shout all we want about it but no one is, or ever was, really listening.

Judy Linard, by email.
