A farmer’s market will take over Whetstone High Road in efforts to boost the community spirit.

Organisers at the Love Whetstone project have arranged for traders to hold the area’s first farmer’s market, to take place on every second Sunday of the month.

Love Whetstone is a project aimed at improving the area and community on the High Road.

Maria Jordan, who lives in Whetstone, was one of ten people who organised the first Wake up Whetstone street party in High Road, earlier this year, which was labelled as “highly successful.”

Ms Jordan said: “The idea for the farmer’s market started after speaking with around 30 stall holders at the event in April, who all thought it would be a good idea. A number of them attend other markets but we don’t have one in Whetstone.

"The feedback we had from our event in April was great, and it is all well organising an annual event but there is a need for something else on the high road.

"We are also planning to raise around £500 to place a Christmas tree in the high road, as there hasn't been one there for a number of years.

"Ideally we would like the tree to be placed outside the old HSBC building. There are bollards that could protect the tree and there is enough space for the children’s choir to gather around it.”

Organiser have also arranged a special dinner evening at Haven bistro and bar in the High Road, and all money from tickets will go towards Christmas fair plans.
