SELFIES, Instagram and computer animations took over teaching at a primary school to promote Safer Internet Day this week.

Pupils at Forest School in Snaresbrook took part in the global awareness day on Tuesday (February 7), which unites over 100 different countries in thinking about how to make the Internet safer for children and young people.

During the jam-packed day at the school in College Place, Year 3 to 6 pupils took real life Instagram selfies, made short digital animations about how they use the web, and talked about the risks of putting photos online.

After its ‘bring your own device’ initiative was introduced in 2015, every pupil at Forest School comes to school with a laptop, iPad, or tablet so teachers can share classroom resources directly with them in lessons.

A Forest School spokesman said: “We want our pupils to be informed, responsible and active participants in a connected, information-orientated society.

“We want pupils to be prepared for the future, to shape it and not to learn about living in this emerging society by accident.

“Safer Internet Day was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to learn and discuss how they can each help create a better and safer online community.”
