Neighbours have launched a petition to oppose aspects of a revised planning application.

The application to turn North London Business Park into homes has aroused a number of complaints from neighbours, especially those in Weirdale and Ashbourne Avenues.

The revised application will see 150 more properties built than originally decided and makes no reference to an emergency services access road which the neighbours have openly opposed.

Resident Martin Berliner said: “We need your support in opposing the access into Weirdale and Ashbourne Avenues.”

He continued: “We need 25 signatures for it to be considered at the planning committee, we had 227 signatures on our last ePetition so help us beat this.

“Everyone in your household can sign including friends and family so don’t please delay.”

The petition has received 87 responses since it was posted online this week, and the group’s previous petition received 227 signatures in one month.

Cllr Lisa Rutter, lending support to the campaign, said: “I think the petition gives people the opportunity to voice their concerns and this is good.

“I have been supporting all my residents right from the start working hard to make sure that any new proposal for development takes into consideration the character of the surrounding area and is acceptable by all the local residents.”

She added: “The latest in this matter is that I am trying to ask for a residents meeting with the developer and I am still waiting to hear if the developer will agree.

“As the Planning Committee has now been changed to June 26th I hope that the developer will agree to meet the residents and hopefully by the time it goes to the committee there will be an acceptable proposal.”

The group will also be leafleting nearby homes to enable people to sign the petition who do not use computers.

Barnet Council spokesman Cath Shaw, Commissioning Director for Growth & Development, said: “We are currently consulting on a planning application from Comer Homes for the North London Business Park. We are aware of the petition from residents and this will be reported to the planning committee, along with any comments received during the consultation, for members to consider when making their decision.”
