A memorial ceremony is to be held to honour those who lost their lives in the Holocaust.

The theme of this year's Holocaust Memorial Day is "the power of words" and will take place at Middlesex University on January 28.

Speakers will include Borough Commander Simon Rose, the university's vice chancellor Professor Tim Blackman, Simon Bentley, chairman of Yad Vashem UK Foundation, and pupils from Woodhouse College who visited Auschwitz concentration camp.

Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Brian Salinger, said: "Holocaust Memorial Day gives us the opportunity to think about all those people who have lost their lives in the Holocaust and in other atrocities."

The Mayor will open proceedings with a procession along with councillors and dignitaries, and music will be performed by the Barnet Band. the London Cantorial Singers and the Alyth Youth Singers, before pupils from the Akiva School hand out snowdrop bulbs.

Members of the public are invited to attend, which begins at 1pm with doors open from 12pm.
