A grammar school has been rated as 'outstanding' following an Ofsted inspection.

North London Grammar School in Colindale achieved the status after an inspection which was carried out in April.

The family orientated school which has only existed at the current site for four years was praised for its excellent pastoral support for its students as well as the outstanding progress made across the curriculum by pupils.

The report states that leaders have created "robust systems to check frequently all aspects of the school’s work" while teachers are "experts in their subjects". They plan learning to meet the needs of pupils. Pupils quickly gain new knowledge and deepen their understanding across a range of subjects.

Pupils’ behaviour was described as "impeccable". They work "diligently and with determination to succeed. They value diversity and respect all people no matter what their culture, faith or lifestyle".

Students have had real success after they entered a number of competitions.

Pupils entered the Intellectuals Challenge at the University of Cambridge and achieved a silver medal as a team and gold, silver and bronze in the individual categories.

Saadet Cifti, a year 8 pupil at the grammar school said: "When I heard that our school got awarded outstanding I felt very proud because I knew we earned it. I love being a part of a small school because I know pretty much everyone in the school and all the teachers know me.

"The teachers in our school work extremely hard to provide us with the best education and support all of our needs. In classes every individual feels included and gets attention from the teacher whenever they need. Also, I really like the mentor system in the school because I talk to my mentor twice every week and it really helps me to know there is an adult I can trust and talk to about my problems and things I struggle with."

Head teacher Mr Hakan Gokce added: "North London Grammar School prides on every pupil's academic and pastoral well-being. Our vision is for every NLGS pupil to become excellent role models, citizens and extend to become outstanding community leaders."
