IN response to Michelle Stevens’ letter (Borough musn’t be allowed to stagnate, November 26), I would like to point out that what the Greens are offering is a positive vision for the Arcade site.
It is not about being against ‘investment’ but ensuring that the development meets the needs and desires of the local people.
In times of a recession we need regeneration schemes that create strong local economies and secure jobs, whilst protecting our environment. We can do both. Fight the Height campaign is also backing our petition that calls on the council to adopt the Green vision that I outlined in my previous letter.
If elected next May I would ensure that the proposals for the Arcade site fully incorporated a cinema to provide a major entertainment venue. Whilst in relation to the EMD I would seek to ensure that the building can be used to its best capacity without losing a great cultural asset.
The difference between us and the Lib Dems are that they are part of this administration that has been responsible for the failings of the Arcade site and have yet come up with any feasible suggestions.
Daniel Perrett, Green Party candidate for Hoe Street ward.
