POLICE made several arrests across London, including two in Redbridge, in connection with domestic, race hate and homophobic crimes.
The raids, which took place last Thursday, coincided with the International Day Against Homophobia.
They were aimed at putting the fear back onto the offender, and to encourage victims to report crimes to the police.
Hate and faith crime can include racist, homophobic, disability-motivated crime, and crimes against the vulnerable or elderly by members of their own family or carers.
The number of domestic violence incidents reported to police in 2006/7 was over 101,000, with 20 per cent of incidents accounting for all reported violence and 20 per cent of all murders.
Commander Shaun Sawyer, head of the Violent Crime Directorate, said: "The Metropolitan Police Service and the criminal justice system takes all allegations of these types of crimes very seriously.
"I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that we can take action against those who commit this crime without having a statement from the victim. Your partner's silence no longer protects you."
