East London Runners had three finishers in the top five and five in the top ten as the club flourished at the Wanstead Flats 5km event last Saturday.

Thomas Grimes won the race in a time of 18.31 and close behind were third-placed Patrick Brown, who finished in 19.24, and Mark Boulton, in fourth, who crossed the line in 19.31.

James Wilson came sixth (19.38) and Derek Wright was tenth (21.44).

Jonathan Shaw and Emiko Priest finished 21st and 35th respectively.

Grimes was also at the front the day after as he won the West Ham 5km in a slightly slower time of 19.49.

Hot on his heels was Mohammed Aklaqul-Ambea, who finished runner up with a time of 20.39.

Gavin Stebbing’s park run personal best of 19.31 saw him finish second at the Valentine’s Park 5km.

Alex Haward came third, stopping the clock at 19.50, which was also a park run personal best for him.

On their course debuts, Tim Le Rasle came sixth and Frank Brownlie finished 20th, while in between the novice pair was Katherine Harris in 17th.

Phoebe Kallin came 32nd out of 62 finishers at the Peter May Sports Ground 5km event with a time of 26.05.

Further afield, Jimmy Hartwell ran the Marrakesh Marathon and came 466th. Jimmy Hartwell crossed the line in 4.28.30.
