Chingford's golfing sensation Ashleigh Greenham will continue her budding career at America’s Arizona State University after being handed a full scholarship.
Greenham, a Year 12 pupil at Forest School who is a member at West Essex Golf Club, had a total of five offers in the USA but opted for Arizona because of its pedigree and all-round appeal.
A delighted Greenham said: “After getting off the phone with my new coach who had just made me the offer, I was shaking and couldn’t sleep that night, such was my excitement.
“Arizona ticks every box – golf, academic and of course the weather. I just want to fast-forward to next year.”
Greenham, who has represented her club, county and country, and plays off a handicap of +2, will be joining one of the world’s top 80 universities which also has a strong reputation for developing talented young golfers.
Among the perks, the scholarship will include new golf equipment to keep Greenham stocked for practice.
The scholarship begins in September 2014.
