Waltham Abbey are in the thick of a fixture nightmare as the club are scheduled to play six games in ten days before the season finishes this Saturday.

This week alone the Abbots will have played three games in four days as a series of postponed matches during the winter takes its toll.

Paul Wickenden’s men showed no signs of fatigue on Monday night however as they beat Potters Bar Town 2-0.

Joe Pearman missed a penalty in the first half but striker Dean Green made sure it didn’t matter as he scored two goals to wrap up the win.

Two days previous it had been a less successful story for Abbey as they were thrashed 4-0 at home by relegation battlers Redbridge.

It took just three minutes for the Motormen to go in front as Jason Dobbs found the net with a sweet strike from long range and six minutes later it was two as Danny Hayes hit a brilliantly-timed volley past Jake Whincup.

Abbey regained their composure but it was Redbridge who scored the third through a Nana Asamoah free-kick just after the hour mark before D’Sean Theobald wrapped up a vital win for the Motormen in injury time.

Another four goals were conceded by Abbey last Thursday as well as they were beaten 4-2 by Brentwood Town.

Louis Bristow and Pearman looked to have secured the Abbots a draw as the score remained 2-2 in the 90th minute but Brentwood left it late to net a quick-fire double and steal all three points for their side.

Abbey currently sit 16th in the table but could climb three places if they win their two games in hand starting with Aveley away tonight before Romford away tomorrow night and the final match of the season away to Grays Athletic on Saturday.

Redbridge were unable to back up their impressive win over Abbey as they lost 1-0 to Aveley on Monday night.

Although in theory the defeat means the Motormen’s fight for survival will go to the final day, Redbridge are almost certainly safe as they are three points ahead of Ilford and hold a better goal difference by nine.

A draw or better would be enough to guarantee their Ryman North Division status when they host AFC Sudbury on Saturday.

Waltham Forest came from two goals behind to rescue a deserved 2-2 draw away to Romford.

Two first-half efforts put Romford firmly in command at half-time but Forest were a different side in the second period and George Lutaaya pulled one back from the edge of the area.

It looked as though the visitors’ efforts would be unrewarded until Matt Waldron headed home off the crossbar deep into injury time.

The Stags currently sit 18th in the table, which is where they will finish the season regardless of the result on Saturday when they host Chatham Town.
