Real Madrid legend Raul labels Tottenham Hotspur Gareth Bale's £100m asking price 'too high'
10:35am Tuesday 20th August 2013 in Sport
Real Madrid’s record goalscorer Raul says that the £100m price being quoted for Tottenham Hotspur attacker Gareth Bale is "too high".
Raul, now 36 and playing in Qatar with Al-Sadd, told the club’s official website that the 24-year-old has been overpriced by his former club.
"Bale is a wonderful player,” said Raul. “I understand the Real Madrid board is working hard to assemble the best team possible. But the price is too high.”
The 24-year-old is believed to have made his intention to move to Madrid clear to Spurs, but chairman Daniel Levy is holding out for a world-record fee of £100m for the Welshman.
