Frenford Senior picked up where they left off last season by winning the Olympian League’s annual curtain-raiser, the Senior Challenge Cup.
Having lifted both the Premier Division and Senior Division Cup last time out, their opponents were league runners-up Kelvedon Hatch and for the hosts it was business as usual as Jon Wightman grabbed the only goal to continue their domestic dominance.
Division One champions Bishops Stortford Swifts started their Premier League campaign in style as Gavin Cockman grabbed a double in a 2-1 victory over Harold Wood Athletic.
Lee Pyne got the consolation for Wood.
Buckhurst Hill beat Hannakins Farm 4-3 winners in an entertaining game at Roding Lane.
A Jordan Childs brace, James Lindie and an own goal did the damage for the hosts.
Hannakins struck through Luke Eatwell, Connor Weston and Elliot Vile and were unlucky not to grab a dramatic equaliser at the end but eventually left empty-handed.
It was also a perfect start to the season for promoted Newbury Forest as Christian Bulembi, Jonathan Galligan, Bradley Gates and Nicholas Marrable all scored to down Harold Hill and earn their side a 4-2 victory.
Westhamians started life in Division One with a defeat as they found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-1 deficit against Old Southendian.
The home side scored twice through Olly Tatton-Bennett with further goals coming via Nick Cardosi and Liam Garrard.
The division’s other game saw Springfield and Canning Town play out a goalless draw.
Alemite Athletic took the bragging rights in the battle of the Olympian League newcomers as they thumped Snaresbrook 4-1 courtesy of goals from Aaron Bowden, Anthony James, Earl Smith and Jack Hayden.
James went from hero to villain late on as he was dismissed but by then the points were assured.
Visitors Epping overcame Leytonstone United by the same scoreline to claim all three points.
Jake Clarke bagged a double with Sean Garwood and Tommy Brinkman also chipping in.
Matt Osborne netted a reply for United.
