Roma's Erik Lamela close to Tottenham Hotspur move as talks intensify over Christian Eriksen Ajax switch
4:29pm Wednesday 28th August 2013 in Sport
Spurs are set to replace Real Madrid-bound Gareth Bale with Roma attacker Erik Lamela, according to The London Evening Standard.
With Bale set for a world-record move to Madrid, Tottenham have this afternoon moved a step closer to signing Lamela, who is understood to be in London ahead of completing his move to White Hart Lane.
The 21-year-old plays predominantly on the left wing, but can also play through the middle and will cost Tottenham £30m.
A full Argentine international with four caps to his name, Lamela scored 15 goals in 30 Serie ‘A’ starts last season, catching the eye of Spurs’ boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen looks likely to follow Lamela to north London, with Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy and director of football Franco Baldini both in Amsterdam attempting to complete a deal for the 21-year-old.
Eriksen’s contract with the Eredivisie holders expires next June and with Eriksen unlikely to commit to a new contract, a cut-price move to Spurs is on the cards.
