Old Loughtonians Firsts ran out convincing 4-0 winners over newly-promoted visitors Brighton and Hove in their first match of the season.
The home side’s Australian signing James Jewell came closest to opening the scoring in the first half as his reverse stick strike was plucked out of the top corner by the Brighton keeper.
Tom Sibley broke the deadlock in the 50th minute as his slap-shot was turned in by a Brighton defender.
Six minutes later, Tom Watson doubled Old Loughtonians’ lead as he finished off a sweeping move before Stuart Hardy got himself on the scoresheet.
Conor Caplan then completed the win following a perfect pass from Watson to give Old Loughtonians the perfect start to season.
Chloe Rodgers netted twice as Old Loughtonians Ladies Firsts secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Sevenoaks.
Old Loughs began the game strongly and new signing Rodgers registered her first goal in the league following a flowing move down the right.
Sevenoaks worked their way back into the game and equalised before taking the lead through a penalty goal at the beginning of the second half.
With time running out, Rodgers stepped up to score her and Old Loughtonians’ second goal from the rebound off her saved penalty corner.
Miranda Weeks then claimed the victory for Old Loughtonians as she turned in another penalty corner.
Old Loughtonians Ladies Seconds ran out convincing 7-0 winners away to Wisbech in the England Hockey Ladies Seconds Cup to progress to the next round.
n Crostyx Mens Firsts continued to finalise their pre-season preparations as they participated in a triangular friendly series against Broxbourne and Havering.
Fielding a young side, Crostyx were held to a 3-3 draw against Broxbourne, who were hosting the tournament, after two goals from Phil Bowes.
Despite the away team being the better side for much of the first period, Broxbourne took the lead just before the interval.
In an exciting second half, Bowes struck twice and new recruit Tom Styles also found the net as Crostyx held on for a share of the spoils.
The second match against Havering did not end so well as Crostyx were convincingly beaten 6-1 but the effort and performance impressed the coaches.
Crostyx Men’s Thirds completed a convincing 1-0 victory at home to Wapping Seven in their final game before the league season starts.
The home side were forced to defend for much of the first period but Andy Murphy was on hand to steer Crostyx into the lead after Wapping failed to clear the ball as it was crossed into the D.
Kepper Christopher Tilley made several fine saves in the second half and a goal-line clearance by David Matson earned Crostyx victory and a clean sheet.
Crostyx Ladies suffered a narrow 3-2 loss away to Brentwood in their final friendly of pre-season.
The visitors started brightly and good work between Lara Pollock and Sarah Belsham, following an impressive interception, saw them take an early lead with Annabel Smith swiping the ball over the keeper.
Crostyx continued to press forward but were caught out as Brentwood grabbed an equaliser from a quick free hit before edging into the lead just before half-time.
As the away side searched for their second goal, Brentfood further extended their lead as they found the net from a series of short corners.
Alys Hackett then reduced the deficit to a single goal after a well-drilled short corner routine saw her control the ball and guide it into the bottom left of the goal.
Despite pressing for the final 15 minutes, Crostyx were unable to find the all-important equalising goal.
Crostyx Ladies Thirds fell to a 4-1 friendly loss at home to Southgate Fifths.
