Crostyx Ladies off to a great start with a 4-1 victory over East London

Crostyx Ladies got their season off to a great start with a 4-1 victory over East London.
The match was very competitive and despite the score, at times quite close.
Crostyx took an early lead with the first goal from Ciara Newell, who scored after one of her great runs, controlling the ball on the reverse.
The standard was set high early on and East London responded with several attacks which were stopped by Crostyx’s solid defence.
The forwards had a few opportunities but were unable to convert them despite great work by captain Vicky Berill, Sarah Belsham and Carrie Curtis and the first half ended 1-0.
Crostyx thought they started the second half perfectly as 40 seconds in, Belsham went on a great run before striking the ball into the net but the goal was disallowed.
With a rapid counter attack, East London managed to get the ball down the other end and sneaked a goal themselves.
Bouyed by the goal, East London set about another flurry of attacks which were again defended superbly, with Rosie Batchelor stepping in and making some excellent saves.
Crostyx’s second goal came from a short corner. Alys Hackett thought on her feet when it didn’t quite go to plan, slipped it to Donna Blockley, who placed the ball in the back of the net.
From then on Crostyx gained confidence and another two goals came – the first arriving after a fine run from Newell allowed her to perform her trademark reverse stick before slipping the ball into the back of the net.
Crostyx’s final goal came from a great link up after Carrie Curtis took on three of the East London defence before slipping it to Berill, who expertly slid it past the keeper.
