9:00am Thursday 10th October 2013 in Sport
Crostyx ladies continued their unbeaten start to the Division Two C season on Saturday with a comfortable 9-0 win over IES.
Early in the match Crostyx went 2-0 up from two short corners. The first goal came from a deflected shot by Carrie Curtis and the second from a well-placed sweep by Donna Blockley.
The next goal came from another short corner which was slipped to Anna Feldman, who skilfully struck the ball into the opposite corner of the goal.
Crostyx were particularly strong in the midfield with Alys Hackett and Laura Feldman supporting the attack.
Good runs out wide from Ciara Newell, Ellie Prideaux and Laura Feldman also created several goal-scoring opportunities.
Other goals soon followed through Newell, who was able to use reverse stick runs before striking the ball into the goal on two occasions.
Victoria Berrill also scored a skilful goal after taking on the IES defence and applying a fine finish.
Fast attacks resulted in a flurry of goals in quick succession by Sarah Belsham, Curtis and Anna Feldman.
Crostyx face a trip to Hertford on Saturday.
The ladies Seconds were unable to replicate the first team’s success as they were beaten 4-1 at home to Maldon.
It was a much better afternoon for the ladies Thirds, who recorded their first win since the team formed, beating Southend Fourths 2-0.
Lizzy Gummer and Lizzy Matson both scored twice to give Crostyx a satisfying victory.
The men’s Seconds were subjected to a humbling 8-0 defeat at the hands of a well-organised Wapping team.
The men’s Thirds brushed aside Brentwood Fifths 3-0.
Peter Hough opened the scoring for the visitors and Matt Storrs doubled the advantage before Kevin Foot added a third late on for the victors.
