Eastern Avenue girls secured an emphatic 8-3 win over Island Girls in the Essex County Girls Under-18 League on Sunday, with Ashleigh Lewis-Shodeinde scoring five goals.
Starting with only ten players, Eastern Avenue made a breakthrough with less than three minutes on the clock as Lewis-Shodeinde applied a good finish for her first of the afternoon.
An own-goal doubled Avenue’s advantage and Daisy Davis hit the post before Ayse Yuksel made it three with a dipping half volley.
Lewis-Shodeinde added another soon after before Yuksel scored her second, drilling home a loose ball after a corner.
Island pulled one back with a penalty before the break but Avenue were 5-1 up and in control.
Lewis-Shodeinde completed her hat-trick ten minutes into the second period with an impressive strike under pressure, although some careless defending allowed the Islanders to score a second goal five minutes later.
Lewis-Shodeinde netted her fourth with a brilliant shot on the turn and she made it 8-2 with a towering header - her fifth of the game - before Islanders grabbed a late consolation.
