Just when you might have thought the bubble had burst and the doom and gloom merchants expecting the start of a slump, up pops Dean Cox and not only fires home a stunning point grabber, but more importantly re-establishes our rightful position at the top of the League One tree.

However, it was a frustrating afternoon. In all honesty, the game should have been out of sight long before the interval. But no one is perfect and on another day the chances we created cross the line in and everyone goes home happy.

I say ‘happy’, but in this situation it must be ‘happier’ as news filtering late on was Wolves were losing at Peterborough – who were ending a barren run – thankfully for us.

These last two Orient results further endorsed what a tight division we are in and as I alluded in my last set of notes this point again might be important should we be in the run-in come late April.

By the same token, it was a top-of-table spot clincher, but on another day it is points dropped such is the clamour for maximum returns. In the cold light of day, we have shipped four points out of a maximum six in just two games.

But, both the sides we have faced this week are improving although the former, Bristol City, rather surprising decided to dispense of their manager’s services not long after our visit way out west. Sheffield United on the hand, buoyed by their fantastic support, and now three unbeaten should pull away.

It’s points on the board however and not necessarily performances that matter even at this stage of the season.

Orient therefore proved what a good side they are by not accepting defeat. But to be fair you would have certainly got long odds on us levelling after continually firing blanks. Credit though to their keeper who played an absolute ‘blinder’ and could be considered unlucky to have been beaten so late on.

And, who was the so-called ‘fan’ who was moaning at the gaffer Mr Slade? He reportedly gained admission with a free ticket! You certainly can’t please everyone but hey we are top of the league.

If you are reading this take a long look at yourself Mr Doom and Gloom. I know it's frustrating when you should be beating these 'lowly' sides - but there are no 'gimmies' in League One.

However, thanks to Coxy’s ‘worldy’ strike, we not only picked up another tally-adding point, but can now enjoy at least another two weeks as leaders as we take a ‘break’ from league action, with the FA Cup visit of fellow League Oners Walsall this Saturday.

Pressure comes in different guises and no one will be wishing for an exit at this stage with the possibility of a mouth-watering, cash-generating third round tie.

For the lower division clubs going out of the cup at this stage is almost as bad as losing a semi-final, as the third round – and chance of knocking a potentially ‘under-strength’ Premiership side off its pedestal – can be the prize awaiting the winners – in what assumes almost ‘cup final’ proportions for the lower division clubs.

Walsall arguably continue to punch above their weight and if they can keep eleven men on the pitch, the tie would be too close to call. Perhaps this clash might need a resolving replay ten days later.

Keep the faith,

Up the O’s.
