Woodford recorded their first win in nine matches as they beat Old Haberdashers 20-8 away from home in London 1 North.

The win means Woodford are now third from bottom of the table, equal on points with Tabard just below them.

Although the visitors started brightly, playing up the slope and into the wind meant Habs were able to clear their lines and pin Woodford down.

Habs captain and former Woodford man, Simon Miller, was proving a difficult opponent but Woodford's defence was up to the task.

Woodford's Niall Moody was sent to the sin bin for an indiscretion at a ruck but Habs could only take the three points on offer to given them a slender lead at the break.

The hosts then started the second half with a greater appetite than the Highams men and crossed the line to extend their lead, despite playing into the wind.

The signs were ominous for Woodford but they regrouped and slowly took control. When Habs infringed at the breakdown, Cameron Dutch brought Woodford back into contention with a penalty.

Woodford continued to pin their opponents down and soon after, Mike Lawlor crossed for his first try of the game with Dutch adding the conversion to give Woodford the lead for the first time in the match.

Lawlor struck again late on to seal the win and with it denying Habs a losing bonus point.
