East London Runners boasted two competitors in the top 20 at the Benfleet 15-mile race on Sunday.

Samuel Browne was the first Runner home, coming 15th in a time of 1.43.14 and not far behind was Thomas Grimes in 20th, finishing in 1.45.11.

There were plenty of other runners from the Wanstead-based club in action, with Mark Boulton and James Wilson both making the top 50.

Boulton came 33rd in 1.47.12 while Wilson stopped the clock on 1.50.28 in 47th.

Also finishing for Runners were Lee Wollaston (2.03.24), David Baldwin (2.09.10), Peter Hatley (2.15.44), Claire Parker (2.16.53), Grant Conway (2.18.10), Sarah Burns (2.18.33), Emmett Fitzgibbon (2.22.09), Alexandra Wilkinson (2.25.16), Ramesh Pala (2.25.21), Frank Brownlie (2.25.51), Maud Hodson (2.29.46), Ninette Fernandes (2.42.02), Fiona Day (2.43.16) and Catherine Kaar (2.43.37).

Elsewhere, Euan Brown came first at the Wanstead Flats 5km parkrun on Saturday with a time of 17.23.

Wollaston (20.03) finished third, Derek Wright (21.53) came seventh and Regis Martin was eighth with 22.00.

Sarah McCrea was the fastest lady with 22.57 which was enough for 13th overall.

At the Walthamstow 5km parkrun, Patrick Brown came second with 19.27 while Alex Haward (21.48) was close behind in third.

Richard Guest crossed the line in sixth with 23.16 and Steve Bywater finished 19th in 25.52.

Some of those runners then returned to action in the afternoon at Hackney Marshes.

Patrick Brown (31.18) came eighth, Euan Brown (31.44) was 11th and Thomas Grimes (34.19) finished 28th.

Michael Wilson (42.22), Celia Payaneeandee (42.25), Kieran Brown (43.44) and Paula Bedford (47.10) also completed the cross country course.
