I wasn’t quite sure how much lower we could go but West Ham have managed to plummet to even darker depths following yet another week of woe.

After the appalling excuse for a performance at home to Newcastle which put the Hammers back in the bottom three, probably for good, we lined up against Manchester City for a game with just pride at stake.

But any signs of passion or fight have been few and far between at Upton Park this season and unsurprisingly Tuesday night was no different.

Trailing 6-0 from the first leg, we capitulated once again, conceding after two minutes and feebly offering next to nothing for the remainder of the game as we let in three without reply.

Now don’t get me wrong, City are a world-class outfit but yet again the lack of any grit and determination is frightening.

The way we set up once again was tedious and predictable and the manager has got to take the flack.

The buck stops somewhere and Sam Allardyce has run out of excuses. His decisions continue to baffle.

Matt Taylor was poor at right-back against Newcastle so who was in that position again? Taylor. Young right-back Leo Chambers was again on the bench.

Roger Johnson, who was bestowed the honour of being the programme cover star, continued his rocky start to his Hammers loan spell alongside James Tomkins.

Romanian international Razvan Rat, having enjoyed a reasonable start to his West Ham career, has now also begun to look like someone who’s never kicked a football in his life.

Transfer stories coming out in recent days are now appearing to add the name of Alou Diarra to the unsettled list while Mohammed Diame is reportedly demanding parity with top earner Andy Carroll.

Seemingly it’s not a happy camp.

So why is there so much unrest at the club?

I’d always thought of Allardyce as a strong coach with respect in the dressing room.

When he was in charge at Bolton and Newcastle (albeit briefly) he was aided by his captain Kevin Nolan.

So what’s happening at West Ham? Where has the team spirit gone? Where’s this supposed link between the manager and the dressing room?

Too many excuses have been wheeled out by Allardyce throughout the season and the owners have bought them.

Just like with Avram Grant they’ve stood by their man and that season we were relegated. I fear this will end the same way.
