Orient goalkeeper Charlie Grainger has been called up to the England Under-18s squad for their double header against Croatia next month.

Grainger had been on standby for the game against Belgium next week but has now been selected for the squad who will take on the Croatians on March 3 and 5.

The keeper has been involved with the O's first team squad over the last year and has also captained the O’s Under-18 side this season.

Academy director Andy Edwards told the club website: "I’m delighted for Charlie to get the call-up and he fully deserves it. He’s shown an excellent attitude and really put the work in on the training ground with coach Kevin Dearden and the other coaches. We’ve got high hopes for him and I’m sure that the international experience will be one he relishes and will make him a better player.

"It’s great for the academy as a whole too as not only does it give them something to aspire too but also that it sends a message out, that the Orient academy is a great choice for young players who wish to progress and become top class players."

Orient boss Russell Slade said: "We’re really pleased for Charlie and it is a fantastic opportunity for him. I hope he grasps it with both hands."
