An Epping karate teacher gave his nearest rivals a tough lesson on Saturday as he clinched a gold medal at the Newcastle Open.
Dan Cuthbert, who instructs at venues in Epping, North Weald and Ongar, won the individual open weight event in the one point category.
Together with karate sport England teammates Charlie Collins and Greg Gentleman, Cuthbert then also won both senior male team events – sanbon and rotation.
It was an impressive showing from Cuthbert, who was competing in his first event of the year and has his sights on the forthcoming IKU World Championships in Brazil.
