London Raiders came from behind to beat rivals Wightlink Raiders 6-4 in the National Ice Hockey League on Saturday, with Jakub Klima scoring a hat-trick.
London Raiders lost five key players last month and it looked like the team might be feeling their absence when Wightlink opened the scoring after just eight seconds from Jeremy Cornish’s finish.
Cornish, who is Wightlink’s player-coach, was then involved in a scuffle with London defenseman JJ McGrath and soon after the stoppage, Wightlink doubled their lead through Nathan Taylor’s strike.
London pulled a goal back when Danny Marshall found the net after good work by Klima to make it 2-1.
Wightlink’s Matt Barker extended visitors’ advantage early in the third period, but a rapid treble from Klima and a Frankie Harvey finish turned the game on its head to give London a 5-3 lead.
Harvey’s goal made him the 11th player to score 250 points for the club.
Osman scored a power play goal for Wightlink in the 59th minute to make it 5-4 and while Wightlink pressed forward looking for an equaliser, London assistant captain Billy Phillips slotted home into an empty net 43 seconds from time to confirm a vital win.
