Newbury Forest are through to the quarter-finals of the Essex Premier Cup after they held their nerve to beat Old Chelmsfordians 7-6 in a penalty shoot-out on Saturday.

The game finished 2-2 as Paul Ellis and Liam Hopkins grabbed the Old Chelmsfordians goals, with Bradley Gates and Jason Reynolds-Blanche netting for Forest.

Joining Forest in the competition’s last eight will be Manford Way who brushed White Notley aside with a 3-0 victory.

Stuart Houghton, Jamie Lovell and Teddy Watson fired home the goals for Way who will now meet Newbury Forest for a place in the semis.

Division One league leaders Hutton were made to work hard for another important three points as they beat relegation battlers Herongate Athletic 6-4 in an enthralling contest.

Hot on Hutton's heels are Leigh Ramblers who leapt into second after a 3-1 win over Westhamians.

Max Corrigan popped up to score his ninth goal of the season, with the other Leigh strikes coming via Jamie Selby-Knight and Jack O’Connor. Steve Barlex netted for Westhamians.

Ryan and Debden Sports took a point each in Division Two after their encounter ended 3-3.

Ricky White probably deserved to be on a winning side after he scored all the Ryan goals while with Dave Limber, Ian Sawyer and Scott Williams were on target for Debden.

Ryan remain in the relegation zone but are only three points away from the teams above.

Debden remain fifth and five points off the promotion spots.

In Division Three, Alemite Athletic kept the pressure on the top two after they edged a 3-2 victory over Catholic United.

The win puts Athletic on 25 points, equal with Rochford Town and only two points off leaders Snaresbrook.
