Woodford Green with Essex Ladies saw their National Cross Country season come to a climax on Saturday as the six-man team finished 15th at Wollaton Park in Nottingham.

First in for the club was Martyn Cryer, who is currently running more than 70 miles a week in preparation for his first marathon.

Cryer took advantage of the unusually firm course to finish 74th and next in was Tomaz Plibersek in 168th.

Plibersek looked comfortable throughout as he shut out the runners around him to set his own pace.

The third man in was Kevin Murphy in 202nd. Murphy looked like he might struggle early on but the Woodford man came through the field later on to post an excellent result.

Soon after, Angus Holford was the team's next man home in 207th before Darren Southcott crossed the line for 210th.

Sixth man, and completing the team, was Harold Wyber in 217th. Wyber had started fast and, as he is just back from injury, did well to maintain speed.

Elsewhere, several Woodford athletes were representing their respective universities at the BUCS Indoor Championships held in Sheffield.

Amongst a host of strong performances, there were titles for Jordan Kirby-Polidore and Youcef Zatat and also silver medals for Peter Kirabo and Christian Morton.

Kirby-Polidore's title came over 200m in a fine time of 21.04 which was the third fastest by a UK athlete this season.

Fourth in the same final was Omolulu Abiodun who recorded 21.78.

Youcef Zatat's title came in the shotput, where the first year senior recorded a personal best of 16.10m.

Peter Kirabo won a silver medal in the triple jump where he was just shy of his recent personal best with 14.99m.

Behind him in fourth was Thalasong Tshiretletso with 14.69m.

In the men's 400m, Christian Morton just lost out on the line finishing second with 47.52 secs while in the women's race Keishana LaRose was fourth in a season's best of 55.15 secs.

In the women's 1500m final Emily Moss placed fifth with 4.45.48 and in the women's long jump Kitty Eleyae also finished fifth with 5.86m.

Making it through to semi-finals were Paul Scanlan in the 800m where he recorded 157.15 and Tom Holligan who just missed a spot in the 200m final as he placed second with 21.92.
