Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade claims this was the worst time to play Notts County after the O's failed to beat the bottom side in League 1.

Notts County were thrashed 6-0 last weekend and Shaun Derry's side came out fired up as they held promotion chasers Orient to a 0-0 draw.

Slade said: "I think if there was not a good time to come to Notts County then it was probably today on the back of them being beaten by six goals last week.

"There had to be a response today for their football club, the players, management and everybody. Everyone was looking for a response today and they got a fantastic response.

"They were very good in the first period. They gave everything and then when they had to defend they hung on stoutly at the back."

The pitch at Meadow Lane was very poor but Slade refused to use that as an excuse as his side missed the chance to stay level on points with leaders Wolves.

Slade said: "I think they probably watered it before the game. It was a very difficult surface for both teams but there are no excuses there at all.

"We've come away from home and kept a clean sheet and in the second half I thought we put Notts County under a fair bit of pressure and probably should have got ourselves a goal in a really nice period that we had."
