Wigan Athletic have confirmed Welsh international Jack Collison will be joining them on loan from West Ham United for the rest of the season.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who watched his new club draw 3-3 with Yeovil Town from the stands, is expected to make his first appearance for the club against Watford on Saturday. He will also be eligible for Wigan’s FA Cup campaign.

“Jack is exactly what we needed” said manager Uwe Rösler, who needed to strengthen his midfield after the recent injuries to Ben Watson (leg break), Chris McCann (fractured knee-cap) and Roger Espinoza (hernia).

“After we lost Ben, Chris and Roger, we have now brought in two great signings in Ryan Tunnicliffe and Jack Collison.

“He can play in a few different positions, has terrific experience of both the Premier League and the Championship and will heighten competition for places as we move into the crucial last few weeks of the season.”
