Waltham Forest Hockey Club’s ladies’ team sealed promotion from Division 2 SE after a resounding 4-0 win against Wapping Seconds.

Forest put Wapping under pressure from the first whistle and Liz Evans opened the scoring before Hannah Dobbin brilliantly lobbed the visiting goalkeeper.

Forest went into the break two goals ahead but they expected a reaction in the second period. Wapping had some good possession after the restart but the Waltham defence performed well to keep their opponents at bay.

Forest went on to add a third on the counter attack as Lucy Butcher struck her 21st goal of the season and they rounded off the victory as Katherine Abbie finished off an attacking move.

Mog Campbell produced a good stop to keep her clean sheet intact while Sam Fish and Clare Boyling made good clearances in the dying seconds.

It was an impressive performance by Forest and the Ladies can look forward to a return to Division One next season.

Waltham Forest men’s side ended their season with a 2-0 defeat against Letchworth in East Premier B.

Forest had the majority of possession but failed to create chances. When they did push players forward, Letchworth hit them on the counter and were two goals ahead by the interval.

Waltham improved in the second period but were unable to find a route back into the contest. They had seven short corners but were unable to take advantage as Letchworth defended well.

Forest will remain in East Premier B next season but will hope for an improved campaign after a disappointing end to the season.
