Crostyx took two youth teams to the National Clubs' In2 Essex Hockey Championships on Sunday, with the Under-12 boys' side finishing third and the Under-10 girls' side fifth in their respective competitions.

The top two sides in each competition earn the right to represent Essex at the National Club Championships, though neither sides were able to progress.

In their first match, the Under-12s came up against one of the tournament favourites, the Blue Hornets A, losing out 1-0.

Their second fixture followed soon after, with the the Blue Hornets' B side defeat 2-0 thanks to goals from Videsh Weerakoddy and Liam Dolden.

Old Loughtonians' B side were next up and another 2-0 victory was secured for Crostyx, the goals coming from Max Garner and James Preston.

The winning momentum continued for Crostyx, who dispatched with Redbridge 1-0 in their next tie, Dolden getting the game's only goal.

A 3-0 defeat to Old Loughtonians A brought the Purples back down to earth with a bump in their penultimate fixture, before a 2-0 win over Colchester saw Crostyx finish with a flourish.

Hasan Mohsin and Dolden got the goals, as Crostyx finished the tournament in third place.

In the girls' Under-10 tournament, Crostyx finished fifth out of eight teams, with back to back victories in their final two games ensuring a strong finish.

A strong Old Loughtonians A were first up for Crostyx, with a 1-0 defeat coming thanks to a powerful finish from a Loughts attacker.

Crostyx got their first points in the board in their next game, a technical win against Hornets B.

The joy of that victory was shortlived, with 5-0, 7-0 and 4-0 defeats against Hornets A, Colchester and Upminster following.

However, Crostyx showed no little character in roaring back from those setbacks to finish the tournament with back to back wins.

Old Loughts B were beaten 2-1, with a brace from the impressive Kiera Murphy.

Crostyx finished the tournament with a 1-0 win over Chelmsford, Murphy again getting the all-important goal for the Purples.
