London Raiders' season ended in farce as they were excluded from the Division One South play-offs and netminder Frankie Sabine was released following an incident during the first leg.

The Raiders were leading 2-1 in the first leg of their quarter final tie against Streatham Redskins when the game was abandonded after two periods "for the safety of the players and the public".

There has been no confirmation of what the 'incident' was, but tweets from fans at the game have suggested that Raiders' players were involved in an altercation with supporters at the rink.

A statement on the Raiders' website prior to Sunday's second leg read: "London Raiders are sorry to have to announce that the second leg of our play off quarter final game, with the Streatham Redskins, has been cancelled.

"The home leg, due to be played at Lee Valley Ice Rink at 7.30pm today (Sunday) will therefore not take place and all fans are asked to use the media options available to them to broadcast this statement to avoid wasted journeys.

"Whilst the dust settles and we gather our thoughts and await the league’s announcement, the Raiders organisation would like to offer our sincere thanks to our fans and players."

Another statement has followed, announcing that Sabine's contract has been terminated with 'immediate effect'.

The statement read: "Frank regrets his actions and realises the seriousness of the situation and the consequences to the club.

"We await the outcome of the EIHA’s wider investigation into Saturday night’s events and in the meantime wish Frankie well for the future."

Streatham will now face Chelmsford Cheiftains on Saturday in the semi-finals.
