Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade described his side's 5-1 thrashing as a "really dominant performance" as they climbed up to third in League 1.

The O's ended a five-match winless run as they ripped apart a woeful Gillingham side. Orient led 2-0 after nine minutes and were four goals up before half-time at Brisbane Road.

Goals from David Mooney (2), Kevin Lisbie, Dean Cox and substitute Chris Dagnall fired the rampant hosts to victory as they closed to within seven points of second-placed Brentford.

Slade said: "It was a really dominant performance. I'm very pleased that the right people scored goals today. It's important that your forwards are scoring goals at any stage of the season.

"It wasn't going to be long before they returned to it [scoring form]. I think we've been solid enough in our performances without getting those goals but we have been creating chances and today we scored some smashing goals."

Mooney's brace took him to 20 goals for the season but Slade insists there is more to come from him as Orient push for promotion.

The Orient manager said: "I think it is a real landmark. I don't know the last time a Leyton Orient forward scored 20 goals so that's good. We still want more from David between now and the end of the season and the same goes for Lisbie, Dagnall, Shaun Batt and all the forwards we've got in our side."
