Russell Slade insists it does not matter who Leyton Orient come up against in the play-offs when their fate is finally decided next weekend.

Goals from Kevin Lisbie and Chris Dagnall saw off a poor Tranmere Rovers side at the Matchroom Stadium today and moved the O’s up one place to fourth on goal difference.

If results go their way at MK Dons next weekend Orient could finish third in the League One standings, guaranteeing the second leg of their play-off semi-final will be played at home – though fourth position would bring the same advantage.

However Slade says final positions have no relevance once the play-offs get underway.

“I don’t think it makes any difference actually, because when you actually get to the play-offs it’s about the now situation, it’s all about on the day and how you perform,” explained Slade.

“Results that have gone before will count for nothing, albeit we’ve beaten most of those teams or we’ve been very competitive against most of those teams as they have been against us, so we know it’s going to be very tight, we know it’s going to be competitive, we know it’s going to be tough, but we wouldn’t want it any other way,” added Slade.

The win was just Orient’s second in nine League One fixtures, but Slade refuted the claim that his side needed the “boost” that three points over relegation-threatened Tranmere offered.

“I don’t think they needed the boost, but it is important I think to go into the play-offs with a little bit of momentum, a little bit of belief,” countered Slade.

“It’s all about preparation, it’s all about planning, which we’ve been doing for the last week or so since we’ve known our fate, so that process is well under way, whoever we play.

Slade continued: “It’s a big challenge, it’s a huge challenge, but it’s one that we deserve. We’ve worked very, very hard this season and we’ll be looking to progress all the way to Wembley.

“Up in the bunker we’ve got statistics and profiles and our preparation on all three sides, so whoever we meet we’ll be ready and waiting and with the crowd behind us I’m sure well progress.”
