Veteran Leyton Orient striker Kevin Lisbie says there is no reason why the O’s cannot cap a memorable season by securing an unlikely promotion to the Championship.

The 35-year-old took his personal tally to 16 in all competitions by scoring the opener in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers and speaking afterwards, reinforced his manager’s message that the O’s have nothing to fear in the play-offs.

“With all the teams in this division to get top two would have been amazing for this club. We tried our best, fell a bit short, but there’s no better way to get promoted than down at Wembley.

“It’s a mini league now once the league ends. We won eight games in a row at the beginning of the season, why can’t we win three,” mused Lisbie.

The former Charlton Athletic and Colchester United forward is back among the goals, scoring in his last two games after enduring a lean spell which yielded just two in five months.

“My target is always to get more than last season,” explained Lisbie.

“I think I got 16 last season so I’m on course to beat that but more importantly we’re in the play-offs and hopefully we can get promoted and I can score a few more goals on the way too.”

Fellow forward Chris Dagnall came off the bench to add a second in stunning fashion and with Shaun Batt returning to the side impressively, Lisbie believes the firepower available to Russell Slade rivals any in the division.

“Me, Moons [David Mooney], Daggs [Chris Dagnall] – I think Batts [Shaun Batt] has got nine as well. We’ve probably got more goals than most of the strikers in this division as a four,” he said.

“It’s good for us, but it’s good for the team to win as well because we’re going into the play-offs and that’s the most important thing.”

With the club’s forwards all in form at the moment, Lisbie says Slade is in an enviable position: “I wouldn't say it’s competition. Whoever the two picked are [it doesn’t matter]. If it’s not me and it’s Daggs and Moons then I just hope we win games and I hope that we can go up.”

Lisbie added: “The gaffer’s got decisions to make now, but it’s good decisions; rather than none of the strikers scoring, all three of the strikers are scoring.”

At the other end of the pitch, Orient kept their first clean sheet in five – despite missing Elliot Omozusi and Mathieu Baudry – and Lisbie believes the back five will benefit from that boost ahead of the play-offs.

“It’s important for us going into the play-offs to win games and keep clean sheets because it’s important for the defenders to know that they can do it and with clean sheets comes wins.

“We’ve been good all season and obviously we’ve had a bit of a [poor] spell. We’re scoring goals and keeping clean sheets so hopefully we can get another one on Saturday going into the play-offs,” continued Lisbie.
