Chigwell School student Joshua Banfield captained the England Independent Schools FA Under-18 team on Sunday.

Banfield, 18, was captain of the side which comfortably defeated a Scottish Independent Schools side 4-0 at Berwick FC.

England were 4-0 up by half-time to secure a comfortable victory in the annual fixture.

As well as captaining the England team against Scotland, Banfield was also skipper during the tour of the Netherlands at the beginning of last month.

England beat professional Dutch sides Sparta Rotterdam and NAC Breda, but were beaten 3-1 by VVV Venlo.

The year 13 pupil scored against Breda and was named player of the tour in the process.

Chigwell's head of football, Creag Lawrence, said of Banfield's achievements: "Joshua has worked incredibly hard in all sports since he joined Chigwell in year three and this was a fitting reward for his effort and dedication throughout his Chigwell sporting career."
